The Simien is one of the natural world heritage sites registered by UNESCO and one of the most stunning mountain range in Africa. Vast and unique, the highland plateau is capped by a dramatic skyline of jagged volcanic plugs and split by deep gorges and ravines. The views across this landscape are breathtaking: the striking towers and formations having been described as ‘the chess pieces of the Gods’. Our trek takes us to both the highland and rural lowland areas, with an ascent of Mount Buhit, the second highest peak in the range.

A haven for many endemic species of wildlife and flora one can visit the Gelada Baboon, Walia Ibex and Ethiopian wolf while trekking through.  Gondar the Camelot of Africa, with its magnificent medieval castles and palaces.

All the sights are World Heritage Sites registered by UNESCO.

  • Trekking Experience
  • Health and physical fitness are mandatory and needs comfortable trekking shoes.
  • Most of the sites in this tour are natural and religious legacies, so it is advised to follow the instruction of your escort and local guide and remain respectful to the local beliefs at all destinations for example:
    • For the historic part prepare a shawl or a ‘netela’ (as locals call it), when visiting churches.
    • Taking photographs in the cultural villages and of the different tribes will be subject to a mandatory photography fee.
    • As churches have separate entrance for male and female, ask the guide for proper direction before exploring each.
  • Be responsible traveler for the environment, for example do not litter! Use available garbage disposals to dump your personal waste etc.


Day 1

Date : August 17, 2020


Guests will arrive in Addis Ababa, where they will be welcomed and transferred to their hotel by a Pagumen tour and travel representative. Depending on arrival time a City tour of Addis Ababa will be arranged. Addis Ababa being the center of the country’s Economic, social and political activity has a lot of traditional and modern city life to offer Pagumen guests. On this day the city tour of Addis Ababa will cover the National museum: home for the oldest and famous hominid fossil of ‘Lucy’, Mount Entoto for the scenic view of Addis Ababa the Trinity cathedral church. Also known in Amharic as Kidist Selassie, the Trinity Church is the highest ranking Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Cathedral in Addis Ababa. It was built to commemorate Ethiopia's liberation from Italian occupation and is an important place of worship and ceremonial events in Addis Ababa, and Merkato, (also the city center and recognized as one of East Africa’s largest and vibrant market places). Day 2


In the morning fly to Gondar and visit the 17th Century capital of Ethiopia. After checking in to their hotels, Guests will start their visit at the castle compound (UNESCO World heritage site) and King Fasiledes Bath and return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon guests will visit the Debre Birhan Selassie church, (known worldwide for its traditionally painted “Faces of Angels” paintings on its ceilings), the Qusqam monastery (built by Empress Mentwab), where guests will experience the traditional church schooling system which is peculiar to Ethiopia, and finally the Mentwab’s Palace, which adjoins the monastery and became the Empress’ favored residence of which she lived out the rest of her life. Day 3


Morning drive to Debark where guests will need to fulfill Siemen Mountains National Park entrance formalities before proceeding to drive up to the Sankaber. This part of the park is naturally designed for trekking and taking in the spectacular and enchanting view of the mountain chain. The park itself is known for its collection of endemic animals like the Chaldea Baboon, Siemen Wolves, Walia ibex, braded vulture and other species of birds. (It is advisable for acclimatize the Altitude)
Start trekking from Mecihbiy where you will be dropped 2-3 hours walking distance from the first camp site where you will start trekking through the dramatic landscapes and spectacular scenery of the national park. Overnight Camping Sankaber

Day 4


After breakfast, you will trek from Sankaber to Geech enjoying the breathtaking scenery and Jinbar waterfall which will take from 6-7 hours. While trekking to Geech you will see the most spectacular landscape of the Simen Mountains, troops of Gelada, braded vulture and different species of vegetation. Overnight Camping Geech

Day 5


Following the morning breakfast at Geech campsite, you will have another 7-8hours wonderful trek through the grass plateau of Chenek with semi-dense vegetation of the Giant Lobelia. On this trek Kedadit Gorge, Imet Gogo and Enatiye are the most remarkable viewpoints you will enjoy the canyon below, distant ridges and view the seemingly never-ending valleys. Day 6


After breakfast you will trek from Chenek to Ambiko 7-8hours via ‘Buahit’ the second peak of the park with an altitude of 4437masl. This route is the spectacular place to see the endemic Walia Ibex more closely. If you are lucky you may see the rare endemic Ethiopian wolf. Overnight Camping Ambiko

Day 7


Early in the morning you will trek to Ras Dashen 12 hours, the highest point in the country with an altitude of 4620masl and not difficult to climb then trek back to Ambiko. Overnight Camping Ambiko

Day 8


After early breakfast trek back from Ambiko to Chenek for your overnight. Overnight Camping Chenek

Day 9


After breakfast drive back from Chenek to Gondar. On your arrival at Gondar the day will be at leisure. Overnight in Gondar

Day 10


Fly back to Addis and afternoon you will have a chance to have some shopping until the evening, where guests will have an arranged fare well dinner at one of Addis’ best traditional restaurant featuring live folkloric music and dance show before being driven to the airport for final departure.
